Art-Deco in Montparnasse: Hotel du Parc
True to the spirit of Montparnasse neighbourhood, where intellectuals and artists such as Zola, Manet, James Joyce and Hemingway used to gather, Hotel du Parc carries on with the artistic traditions. It is a family run hotel in the heart of the district, but tucked away in a quiet and pleasant location overlooking Gaston Baty Park. Montparnasse Tower and the TGV train station are only a minute away, and the famous cafés and brasseries once frequented by the artistic elite – such as la Coupole, le Dôme, la Rotonde or le Sélect – are no more than 5 minutes walk. The neighbourhood is still very active and lively, with many restaurants, cabarets and theatres open late into the night around rue de la Gaîté.
Not revealing much from outside, as soon as you enter the hotel you will feel home in the art-deco style atmosphere. Managers Chantal and Jérôme will make sure you will have a wonderful stay and are happy to help in any way they can, be it reservations for shows, restaurants and excursions, or giving advice. The family has been running the hotel since 1972, handing the responsibilities from generation to generation.
There are 36 rooms in the hotel, ranging from singles to doubles and twins – on request a third bed can be put in some of the rooms, turning it into a triple. The well-lit rooms reflect a very sophisticated taste where every little detail is in place. All the rooms are different a little bit, with soft and warm colors dominating.
Despite the sophisticated look, Hotel du Parc is a budget place with a double room as low as 75 euros a night. Considering its excellent location, its artistic style, the homely atmosphere and the caring service, it is a real bargain in the city of lights.
